Highway Serial Killers

This article details the recent finding of the body of a missing woman, Patricia Peterson, who could be representative of a host of murders committed along highways.  The article focuses more on the cases of dead bodies found alongside of the road because no specific killer was identified.  However, the current theory is that long-distance truckers pick up women at truck stops (probably hitchhikers), sexually assault them, and then kill them.  The statistic the story relies on is that 500 murders have occurred near highways.  The FBI are in charge of the investigation, and it was a local analyst that first noticed a pattern of women being targeted along highways.  Despite the high number of possible victims, only Patricia Peterson is mentioned by name in the article.  Patricia was found along the Interstate 40, where other women have been found dead.  I'm surprised that I've never read anything about this before because this actually sounds pretty scary.  For one thing, the FBI have already arrested 10 people as possible suspects which means there might be multiple serial killers roaming the country in non-descript tractor trailers.

  2. This topic of highway serial killers is very different from my preconceived notions or serial killers. Not that I think about it, it not of much surprise if people are getting murdered by sex-offenders. These sex-offenders pick of women (hitchhikers) and then use them for sexual favors and in most cases, they dispose of them. Also tractor trailor drivers are constantly moving across the states/country, so its harder to catch these killers. For example, the killer could be from VA, victim from CA, and the victim was murdered and disposed in TX. I suppose that this type of serial killers can be one the most dangerous of them all.

  3. This is pretty scary to think that their is a potential serial killer driving up and down the highways killing and sexually assualting women. Im also suprised that I too have no heard anything about these killings on the news because if this is happening more frequently, I'd want to know about it!

  4. Hmmm...I'm not sure they should be attributing all these murders to long distance truckers without any proof. They could be committed by more organized serial killers that travel cross-country.
